On Monday, October 28, firefighters across King County deployed to California to assist in the wildfire effort.

A Wildland Engine Strike Team comprised of five specialized brush trucks and 19 firefighters from Seattle, Eastside, Shoreline, Bothell, Valley Regional and Duvall Fire Departments left King County early yesterday morning and are on their way to California to battle the blaze.

Crews will likely work 12 to 24 hour shifts for the next 14 days, not including travel time. All firefighters being deployed are “red card” certified, meaning they have been trained specifically in wildland firefighting, which is very different than traditional structural firefighting.
